Most people spend too much time in the gym.  You can either workout hard or you can workout long, but you can't do both!  If you notice the physiques of athletes in the Olympics, the sprinters are always heavily muscled.  Long distance runners tend to be very slim.

There's a reason for this.  Our body is comprised of both white and red muscle fibers.  The white muscle fibers(sprinters) are thick and explosive, and the red fibers(distance runners) are thin and long lasting.

Which muscle fiber do you think lends itself more to develop a better physique?  The white?  Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Correct!

Control Your Cardio Intensity to 
Burn More Fat.

Most people think they're getting in better shape, the longer they're able to do cardio.  We've all heard those friends and family members that say, "I used to get tired from a 10 minute run.  Now I can run for 35 minutes straight without getting tired!" 

Doing cardio for extended periods of time is actually counter productive to you burning fat.  You see, our bodies don't like our heart rate to rise too high for too long.  For example, when you're in a car and you step on the gas, the RPM's increase rapidly.  Now if you don't take your foot off the gas, the RPM's will max out at 5,000 and then bounce back down after hitting the rev limiter.

If the car didn't have a built in defense mechanism(rev limiter), the RPM's would have continued to increase until the engine blew up.  This is a similar process to how your body responds when you elevate your heart rate for too long.  The body simply conditions the heart.  

When your heart becomes more conditioned, it actually burns less calories per cardio session.  Which means less fat burning. And worse yet, your body is more susceptible to burning muscle. This is why I advise my clients to control their cardio intensity and duration.

Steve Norris Lost 225 pounds!

Steve started with us about 10 years ago and lost 100 pounds. Then he stopped working with us and gained it all back plus an extra 100 pounds.

It was only after his doctor diagnosed him with some health issues that he came back to see us..
The Process
When he came back to us, he had been eating tons of junk food and drinking an unbelievable amount of beer.

The first thing I did was cut out the beer. Then I advised him to start cooking his meals at home and to start doing some light cardio(15 minutes walking a day.)

Within only 4 weeks he dropped about 30 pounds.

Fast forward 6 months and Steve was down to 300 pounds. But then he started to plateau. So what do you think I did?

I INCREASED HIS FOOD AND DECREASED HIS CARDIO! And what do you think happened as a result of me doing this?

He started immediately losing weight again and building more muscle.

Now I want to make it clear, he had already dropped 150 pounds over the previous 6 months while following my nutrition plan but as his weight loss slowed he started omitting food without telling me.

When it came to my attention that he was omitting some of his meals, I quickly put a stop to it and started adding more food.


The Results
He lost weight every week after that. And it seemed like the more food I gave hime, the more weight he lost. He was completely ecstatic! And we were ecstatic as well, because he was a walking advertisement for us.

Shannon Johnston lost 50 pounds of fat.

Shannon Johnston is one of our clients that had struggled with his weight for most of his life.  He had tried many different diets with little to no success.  It was only after he went to the doctor that he got some health concerns.  And he decided to come and see us.

The Process
We quickly determined he was eating all of the wrong foods and at the wrong times.  You see Shannon worked for the railroad so he was working graveyard shifts.  We adjusted the timing for his meals and the kinds of foods he was eating and his body responded right away.  

In addition, we adjusted his cardio and workout regimen.  He was only doing cardio 5 days a week for 30 minutes a day.   He did strength training 2 days a week for an hour a day.
The Results
After 3 months working with us, Shannon had lost 50 pounds of fat and gained 5 pounds of muscle.  His health issues have subsided, his bloodwork looks normal, and he has the energy to go out and run with his daughters.  His life is a lot more enjoyable.

Duane Hoppe gained 10 pounds of muscle at 64 Years Old.

Duane wasn't in bad shape when he came to see us.  He was just wanting to look better and see his abs.  He didn't think it was possible because of his age.  You see, Duane had just turned 64.

The Process
We looked at his diet and determined he wasn't eating enough protein and carbohydrates to allow his muscles to get into an anabolic state.  We increased the amount of food he was eating and we added a post workout shake for his recovery.  We also adjusted his cardio.  Duane was doing cardio, but it was random hikes and bike rides.  No method to his madness.  He was to do 30 minutes of cardio a day 5 days a week.  We also cut him back to 3 strength training workouts a week.  He was doing 5 workout days a week prior to coming to see us.
The Results
After woking with us for three months, Duane gained 10 pounds of muscle and lost 12 pounds of fat.  He is now able to see his abs and he feels stronger than he ever has.
He understands the importance of nutrition and recovery.

I started off as a skinny kid that just wanted to build some muscle.

I played sports in high school because I was fast and very athletic, but I got knocked around a lot due to being skinny.  

I graduated weighing 185 pounds(at 6' 2" tall). After graduating high school, I decided to start lifting weights seriously.

Two years after I graduated, I had built myself up to a solid 230 pounds.  My high school football coach saw me at a football game and asked me, "What the hell happened to you?  Man, we could have used you!"

It was during this time I realized I wanted to get more serious about working out and fitness.

Fast forward 3 years.  I started working at a gym and decided to become a personal trainer. With the skills and knowledge I used to build my own physique, I was able to help my clients see immediate success.
